Hey all, I bought a 2005 XL883C that had only 4000 miles.   It's obviously in great shape.  The only thing there is a whine in the back half of the motor.  It whines louder as I am decelerating/downshifting, but you can hear a little as I am accelerating.  It does seem to be in all the gears 1st all the way to 5th.     It's not horrible but you can hear it over short shots with quiet baffles.  I took it to a local shop to test ride and they said it is on the "normal/loud" end of the spectrum.

What do y'all think?   Any suggestions?   Ride it till it becomes obvious?   What I should look at?   Normal?

This is the first sporty I have had.

Thanks

Could the belt be too tight?

It seemed tight so I loosened it a bit and it didn't seem to change it.

PC_Hater

change the transmission oil, adjust the clutch, adjust the primary chain.
If it still whines - just ride it.

Did the trans oil and adjusted the primary, will try the clutch.

But so far....... I am just riding it.  Maybe I just need to go back to regular baffles......
