It looks like the bearing end plate have been replaced with a 2nd generation end plate as well.

Is your main drive gear fine or coarse splined?

It looks like a rigid mount transmission. Have you got the forward pointing starter solenoid at your inner primary cover and the old type Hitachi starter motor?

Mule

The pics of the smaller end cover with the clutch release arm are first generation 5 speed for sure.

The pictures you have provided are all most irrelevant for the purposes of identifying this transmission. The trap door and end cover don't tell anything as they can easily be swapped out. What is relevant is the case. The picture of the bike shows that it is not rubber mounted, so all years of the FLT/FXR and the rubber mounted Dyna's can be ruled out. This is obviously a standard solid mount five speed typical of those used in softails.  The unknown is if it is early or late model. The early model will have a small hole for the starter, the late model with have a large hole. A picture of the starter will tell everything.

i contacted the installer who changed it to hydro said its the early 5sp looks like ive saved my money on something that wont fit.will try an track down a 85-87 used trans thanks

Is it any assembly instructions available in PDF's? It might be the early type end cover (and early type bearing end plate) that rule out the early 5-speeds. Most reverse kits replace the late type bearing end plate, and you have late type end cover bolt pattern anyway.

i knew that.to build one and hope to get it registered in australia is next to impossible. i paid $24000 and spent $6000 to get it to my liking.if it wasnt registered i would not have bought it
