Wood 888
246/246
100/100
23/43 43/23
.575"

S&S HP103
249/251
102.7/101.5 [.6* retard]
20/49 50/22
.575"

I've read all of the threads here on both [and elswhere . Admiral Akbar is the only one that questioned the retard in the S&S and suggested a +4 sprocket. That was my thought too. That would put the L/Cs on 98.7/105.5 and the close at 45. Perhaps +4 even for the Wood 888.   [96/104, 42 close]

I'm sure that the Wood ramps are faster. [too bad we don't get duration at .100, .200, etc]. How much is that really worth?

Bike is an '02 FLHT

Engine will be a mild 120" with either ported CVO110 heads or MVAs. I have flat top 120R pistons. Everyone seems compression crazy these days. I'd be ok if it's 10.3-1. I run 93 gas, but it's nice not to worry. [I did have a 117" Dyna years ago that was 11.7-1 CR]

Small primary fatcat [1.625"/1.75". Louvered baffle now, could do perforated. Have a 44mm CV by Wood, might go to 51mm or a 48 mik. Maybe.

Cases will be bored for '07 up cam bearings. Will use '07 up chains, tensioners, etc. I have S&S 1.72-1 roller rockers [makes lift apx .600"] and SE rocker supports. I have the Andrews +4* sprocket.

I have the 888s too. I don't know why, but the S&S cams keep calling my name. I don't even like S&S cams! LOL

Thoughts? Thanks.
Dave

Run the S&S at 10.6 and change to a +4 as a trial later

Just for giggles, I ran it through the simulator, without the +4 sprocket or the 1.72 rockers. What are the goals for this project?

Ignorance is bliss, and accuracy expensive. How much of either can you afford?

Attached is a dyno sheet for the S&S HP 103 in a 110 engine with head work from R&R cycles. Curve looks very much like the simulator.

Thanks, Gents.

I would have bet money the S&S would have made more peak horse. Either one looks good.

Goal is a mild hotrod tractor engine for 2 up riding.

And what about the characteristics of the heads? Doesn't that factor into the choice?

dave brode

What exhaust was on the real dyno'd bike and the sim'd engine?

My limited experience has shown that these strange engines are very finicky on exhaust vs cam timing.

Thanks.

D&D but not sure of the baffle used
