Who's got the scoop on reading the vin to find out original paint color of a bike?

Best I can do for you is to say on a 2001 model there is a tag on the bottom of the gas tank with the paint code.

enter your VIN then check the Painted Parts

Couldn't find much on the portal. I should mention my bike is an 87 FXLR.
