I pulled the front shift axle out of my NEW 2019 FLHX to see why a brand new part was so sloppy.
Inside I found a Teflon coated slide metal designed for "wet niche" use only.

Who was the goose who designed this? This type of slide metal is meant to operate under oil no thicker than 5Wt SAE and with clearances 1/10 of the sloppy mess that HD have designed here,

To make matters worse, the boss is only 1/2 the length of a pre-Rushmore bike.  :wtf:

This mob have designed seven! different fancy linkage shafts but buggered up the simplest part of the whole show.  :banghead:

Mine is now sealed both ends and fitted with a grease nipple, it's still sloppy. If there's enough meat there I'll needle roller the thing later...

900 page accessory catalog, gearbox transfers and dry sump doesn't work. Hello, priorities...

And where's the extended brake pedal three year models after the release of the M8? Last one they made was for TwinCams

It helps a lot due to the really thick air filter element I'm running.

Maddo, did you take any pics of the shift axle? Before and after?
Thanks in advance

Before is easy, it was stock! I'll take a pick of after for you. Simple job but makes it last forever.

Years ago that fix was suggested on this site, (msn in 2004/05) many of us myself included made that modification.

Glad to see that H-D is remaining consistent.

Wasn't the internal bush made from sintered bronze back in the day Mike?

It's beyond belief they used a Teflon slide-metal designed for closed-and-lubed installation. That part will flog out real quick in dusty/wet conditions...

On my bike, 2003 RK the bushing is a green plastic looking thing if I remember correctly, not bronze for sure.

Though Pingle makes this little cutie for $100. If your not up to drilling and tapping for a zirk.
