« on: February 05, 2018, 10:02:10 PM »
Looking to replace a wheel bearing Part# 9247 It is for 1 inch axle. The local H-D dealer has some in stock made in Slovakia  . I seen other's made in China. Is there a Bearing made that is high quality  SKS, Fag , Timken etc?
Or what would you folks recommend. I am just Leary of Chinese junk is all. Thanks Jeff

Any bearing you'll take your chances anymore, even one made in the US. I've used lots of bearings from all over and the rate of failure is low. Besides, if it goes out it'll give you something to do with your Bros in the garage in the summer when it's riding time and your drinking beer and depending on which state you live in, smoke a bowl.

Chinese are making good bearings. If you are looking for higher quality you have to go to their website & look up the specs as there will usually be a couple different grades of the same bearing, & HD isn't going to be using the top grade! :potstir:

Problem with that 1" bore bearing is the finding something with the proper OD and width. Not much to choose from other than HD and a couple aftermarket sources.
I am an adult?? When did that happen, and how do I make it stop?!

That was my problem. I searched but i was not able to find anything that matched all 3 measurements. I have to admit i was shocked that the size of the bearing was so odd. Why wouldn't they be happy to just use a standard size bearing is beyond me  :nix:

I don't think there are many issues with that bearing. It is way more robust than the lighter, problematic, :turd:, 25 mm ones.

Harley likes to have items made to there spec, the more odd ball the better . It's there door you have to come  threw. And maybe sell you a new bike instead of a bearing.

I had a 2002 FLHTCUI that used those bearings.  The rear wheel bearings were replaced at 43,000 miles.  Both front & rear were replaced at 124,000 miles.  The replacement bearings were stock HD bearings replaced by the dealer.  I don't have any idea where they were produced.  Bearings were replaced in 2003 & 2008.

I wasn't implying they don't need to be regularly inspected and changed when needed. Mine went 60K miles before I changed them just because. Seems the new 25mm ones get changed every second tire.

Those Harley 9247 bearings made in Slovakia are top of the line, proprietary made by Fag. I have no experience with the off brands.

I think it was turboprop bragging on some low friction ceramic bearing, have to do a search.

Has anyone put any real miles on ceramic bearings? Most of us are more concerned about longevity over rolling resistance.

I have SKF 25mm bearings that have 90K on them, they were made in France.
