Just a question on these  Harley fork tube extensions. Are they a safe thing to use or is more a cheap and dangerous way to  to extend fork's ?

Wow! Fork slugs. Have not seen those used since the mid to late 60s. Cheap, quick way to extend the fork. About the only problems seen back then was some tended to unthread from the fork. The fix was to use a drop of brazing at the joint. Was not a big deal since many bikes were using gators or covers between the trees anyway. Installed many back then. Would not today.

of course longer tubes would be the recommended way to go. Modern slugs get a bad rap these day because of the horror stories of the past where they were used below the lower tree with less than modern technology.

  NO

A buddy of mine crashed and broke his back when a slug failed on the highway in the very early 70's. Very nearly died before he was found and rescued.

I extended the fork tubes on my Shovel because of a rake. Not that much work or expense.  I would not trust those things. The easy way out usually comes back to bite you in the as$.

"70s also had 39mm tubes.
I'm not a big fan of them, however the bigger 49mm tubes seem to be holding up. The boyz out west are smashing them pretty good in their bikes and seem to not have issues.

I still wont run them though. Just does seem right to me.

Yep me too.  Installed 2" over tubes on my '76 FLH.  Worked out just fine.

Have your buddy call Frank's Engineering (Forking by Frank). They can make a set of fork tubes in any length you want.  I have 10" over tubes from Frank's.
