Did I make the right cam choice overnight?
« on: March 13, 2018, 08:53:14 AM »
There is so much banter out there if cams really make a difference (leaving heads on the bike for install), on the already well thought out Rushmoreís.
I vowed to keep Ď15 FLHXS stock after the huge difference Fuel Motos map they supplied with my PV2 made two seasons ago.
I wobbled back between
First choice CycleRama 570-2 $340
Second Wood 222 $350, made eBay offer overnight and it was accepted.
Third Andrews 57h (room for head work years down the road). $227
My buddy bolted in the 57h in his Ď16 Road Glide and he wasnít impressed with the bottom pull.
I actually never really shift above 4500, ride solo and lots of highway miles between both my bikes.
The thing is I live on an island and dyno opportunities are a long way away and expensive up in Canada. FM can set me up.
Aside of having a little bit more hp on top, will the TW222 offer a seat of the pants difference where I ride folks, (I donít put faith in comparing paper printouts), real world ass dyno is where itís at. Will they pull more than my stockers?
Thanks for the reassurance, (I hope)!

With the 570-2's you will have a very noticeable improvement off the bottom, and I agree with your friend that used the 57's, the CR cams were a huge seat of the pants improvement when I went from 57's to them on my old shop mule. JMO

Darren, it seems he got the 222's. Will those be a good choice for him?

They will land between the 57 and the CR cams as far as feel...I can tell you from personal experience that the wot curve is very representative of what you will have proportionately at lower throttle positions, a bike getting near 100tq at or around 2k will feel much better than one that doesn't cross 100tq until 2500 everywhere, part throttle performance is what I focus the most on when tuning.

That is spot on . The seat of the pants feel is what most love .. The late building cams may look great on paper but when riding them you a set up that builds fast has a nice curve will make you smile.

Hoss is correct, I did end up buying the 222 for the main reason I will be very close in my tune with a FM supplied map.
Now to clarify, letís say the bike will never see 4500+ will I notice a difference when I load their 222 map as opposed to their present map and my 103HO setup?

Tri-duces is a nice cam. Be happy and run them.
You will be happy.

Sure the CR570 will give you a ittle more boost of the bottom but I'm willing to bet the trips will also.
I'm not here cause of a path before me, Im here cause of the burnout left behind

the 222 with my FP3 tune made a real difference I can feel when I went from the stage1 103 tune in my 2012 flhx.
you will love the 222's power band in your bike.

And an Andrews 48 is also never a bad choice for a plug/play 103".

I agree the 222 would make a real difference in the pre Rushmore era cams. But Iím wondering if Iíd see any difference in swapping to Wood 222ís after two seasons of the 103HOís
