runs on one cylinder at idle
« on: May 23, 2018, 09:15:25 AM »
98 springer . I have a Daytona Twin Tec under the seat ignition . I had the mod for a year, roughly 5000 miles . In this time I went through 4 sets of plugs and three coils . Now , once it warms up ( not hot) it runs on one cylinder, but runs good going down the road . I thought it was my carb or a leak but that all checks out  . Daytona will not respond to my emails , which I sent over a half a dozen in the past 8 months . This has ended up being the most expensive ignition I have ever bought . I'm over $800 into it . I wish crane still made ignitions still . I really want an under the seat mod versus the nosecone . Any suggestions ?

S&S makes the Crane ignitions now.

I know. but I have never had any luck with S&S parts (usually out of tolerance) . Their quality has gone down hill the past ten years . The crane ignitions were good but people would use an exhaust that wraps around the nose cone which would over heat the ignition . Beside S&S don't make a remote ignition .

I know you said you checked for leaks, Did you mean intake seals, kinda sounds like an intake leak?

A cylinder that does not fire at idle but does above idle is usually not an ignition problem.

Might be a vacuum leak, might be a dead cylinder (low compression or VE).

Spark timing might be off due to incorrectly installed single fire?

do a leak down test usual its valve leaking just to say
as rpm goes up the amount of time the valve spends on seat decreases and it doesn't have the same effect
Keep your feet on the pegs and your right hand cranked

Bad ignition module have seen this many times. Go with the Dyna you wont regret it . Had many Twin tech and Crane modules fail . Seems they are made with cheap Chinese parts . Dyna is Made in USA and very good quality .

leak down test is excellent and the ccp is excellent also . Voes test is also good . I never heard of an intake leak taking out coils before .

Daytona responds really well to phone calls.
Next are you sure you have the correct coils?
I am not sure at all what an under the seat Daytona TT even is.
All the ones I know go in the nose cone.
Next like said,- How did you check for air leak @ manifold?
What is your cranking pressures both cylinders?
You have to to do some homework to ID this, not throw darts.
