CVO Road King Audio Wiring Info
« on: January 18, 2016, 02:57:07 PM »
Despite what HD tells you and what vendors are scared to touch, you can replace the crappy saddlebag amp on your CVO Road King.  I posted this up sometime back (think it was around the end of 2014) but figured I'd re-post it since I've seen some more questions come up about it lately.

there are 2 devices in the mix on these; 1 Audio Module (iPod Module) (16 pins) which appears to accept the signals from the handlebars and then feeds them to device 2 which is the amp (16 pins as well)

Audio Module:
1 - +12v battery power
2 - Switch to amp Pin 3
3 - Volume + from handlebar controls
4 - Play from handlebar controls
5 - Volume - from handlebar controls
7 - Left speaker out + to amp Pin 12 left speaker in +
8 - Left speaker out - to amp Pin 13 left speaker in -
9 - Ground
11 - Track + from handlebar controls
12 - Mode from handlebar controls
13 - Track - from handlebar controls
15 - Right speaker out + to amp Pin 9 right speaker in +
16 - Right speaker out - to amp Pin 10 right speaker in -

Amp Module
1 - Right speaker out +
2 - Right speaker out -
3 - Accessory Power to Audio Module Pin 2 Switch
4 - Left speaker out +
5 - Left speaker out -
7 - ties into Pin 9 of Audio module for ground
8 - ties into Pin 1 of Audio module for +12v battery power
9 - Right speaker + in from Audio Module Pin 15
10 - Right speaker - in from Audio Module Pin 16
12 - Left speaker + in from Audio Module Pin 7
13 - Left speaker - in from Audio Module Pin 8
15 - Ties into Pin 9 on audio module and Pin 7 of amp for ground
16 - Ties into Pin 1 of audio module and Pin 8 of amp for +12v battery

The stock amp can be totally eliminated/replaced by doing the following

+12v battery is Pin 1 of audio module
+12v accessory/ignition power is Pin 2 of audio module
leave pins 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 11, 12, 13 undisturbed as they are on the audio module
pin 7 from audio module to new aftermarket amp left + input
pin 8 from audio module to new aftermarket amp left - input
ground pin 9 of audio module leave undisturbed
pin 15 from audio module to new aftermarket amp right + input
pin 16 from audio module to new aftermarket amp right - input
