Add Garmin GPS to 2017 FLHTCU (Ultra Classic)
« on: June 25, 2017, 09:41:59 PM »
I opted to buy an Ultra Classic without the HD GPS instead of an Ultra Limited. I have a dealer added CB and want to add a Garmin GPS. Any advice on how to do it where I can hear the GPS directions?

save yourself some $ and just get a ram mount to hold your phone and d/l the garmin app to it then pair via Bluetooth to the HD radio.  I'm pretty sure that will work for what you're trying to do.

i used a kuryakln clutch perch mount and a ram cradle to mount a 2455lmy to the bike and use the original garmin power cord plugged into the cigarette lighter socket . cheap and versatile if you change gps. just buy another ram cradle to fit the new unit. and mount cradle to cluth perch. i have a 4" and 5" cradle so i can mount either of the 2 nuvi's i own this way!

You will need this for the audio:
The Boom! head unit will need to be updated by the dealer tech.  There are details for settings in the instructions.

For mounting, I used RAM Mounts for my Garmin zumo 590 (HD branded), but you might consider this:

There are almost innumerable options for mounting, but RAM, T&T, Tech Mount, and Kuryakyn seem to be the more popular versions.

If you purchase a Harley Road Tech branded version of a Garmin zumo (models z660, z665, or z590), the Boom! head unit can be set up to interrupt other audio (such as AM/FM/USB or Bluetooth) to play the navigation instructions.  This only works with HD branded units.
