Anyone seen any balancer bearings puke on the 114"  CVO?  converted to 117"
if they fail wil the metal run through the system and get into all other bearings and pumps and whatever else?
Thanks

Got this from the RG owners on FB , apparently the cage is plastic

When the info on the 2018 M8 comes out I think you will find that HD improved how that bearing gets lubricated.
I am an adult?? When did that happen, and how do I make it stop?!

so the 17 bikes will not be  addressed down the road?

Only with a complete crankcase replacement, so following HD's history, I would say no.

2018 balancer bearing part number  35200021   Interesting, they list 4 bearings and two balancers per engine.
If you don't have a sense of humor you probably have no sense at all.

Dumb question.  So, the original posting talked about a 114" converted to a 117" on a CVO.  This balancer bearing lubrication flaw on the 2017 applies to ALL M8 engines, right?

Are other M8 configurations seeing this same problem?

Is that a different part number from the 2017?

No, that is the same number as what's shown in the 2017 parts manual.

18 softails have a second balancer off back of the crank, as powertrain solid mounted ?

Personally I am not worried about it. Way too few documented cases of this for me to think its an issue.

FSG, are the bearings now pressure oiled?

So new crankcases for the twin balancers, what  happened to the bean counters & all models using same powertrain?

Not FSG but they are splash oiled.

So no change. I referenced FSG since he posted the photos.

Thanks for the pics FSG. Ronnie's doesn't have a parts breakdown for the new motor....is there one out yet?

It looks like there's no real torque on these bearings but the heat from high RPM I could see would melt the plastic wiper or whatever it is. So if one did a high HP motor where you split the cases you would along with a Timpkin bearing for the crank address these with better bearings I guess....

Single balancer wouldn't be enough for a hard mounted engine. Even with two there will be some buzz at high rpms, just like the twin cam B have. The single balancer on the A motor is to minimize the low rpm shake and the rubber mount helps out the higher rpm vibes, as it always has.

If oiling is present in enough amounts that bearing should be fine. 07 and up B motors ran an INA with plastic cage in the bridge and had no issues. They got plenty of oil. Inner bearings were ball and metal caged. While not obvious in the pics the early motors didn't have a feed hole and trough similar to what a timken setup has. I suspect these holes and troughs might be in the later cases to up oil supply to these balancer bearings now. FSG might be able to confirm this?

Yes, try www.docshd.com

Search in upper right for year...2018 etc and then parts by line of Harley.

The SIP Site is the best for info and then on to another to get pricing

With the shape of the new cases don't expect to ever see timken bearings on the sprocket shaft.

Plastic bearing cages?? Whats next.. Plastic Wheels??
