Why would anyone would buy and install 'performance' parts and then skip getting it tuned?

Ohhh, that's good enough. I don't want to race at the track.   :missed:

Or they don't want to ride any distance for a good tune. Bikes are for riding ain't they? Or maybe their mommy won't let them leave town.

I can only speak for myself;

No, my Mom has nothing to do with it, but the wife would be PO'd if I took off for  2-3 days to get my bike tuned...

I am unaware of a competent tuner within a few hours ride of where I live..... I'd love to ride to a tune appointment and get home in the same day..

I used to know a shop that had dyno & good tuner, CARB shut'em down, the "high performance" side of the shop anyways....

I'm always looking..... anyone know a good tuner in the San Diego area that uses PowerVision?

Until then, a map from FuelMoto/DynoJet and an Auto Tune (I do have AT Pro module) will have to be good enough...

The tune should be thought out in the planning stage of the build IMO.  It should be budgeted in from the beginning.

Aside from a few sideways comments that are not actually helpful there is a lot of very good info here. I am in the planning stages of what I want to do this winter. On the western side of Colorado there have not been any techs that I have been to impressed with. The old LOUDER=faster attitude just doesn't work with me anymore. And spending thousands of $$$ just to use more fuel is lost on me. I do know a "good" tune is worth the money. The question is how to get that without wasting time and money.

That's what i was getting at in my previous post. The final tue is like any other part of the build. It should be decided on in the planning stages.  Weather you want to self tune or have it dyno tuned.  The time and money to do either should be factored in.  If you don't want to self tune and there is no shop within the distance you are willing to travel, I wouldn't do the build.  I see people all the time that plan on running a canned MAP when they are done, but they don't have a contingency plan for if the canned MAP isn't close.  Plan for worse case scenerio.

I was in the same situation as you I'm in eastern Colorado wasn't empressed with any of the tuners around here   I loaded mine up and hauled it 900 miles to Fort Worth to have it tuned at GMR  best decision I ever made

I have had two bikes tuned by "competent" tuners and still had to tweek the tunes to get them running to my satisfaction. Terrible gas mileage, they ran great on that extra fuel! :hyst: I do street tune with a TTS, better than a flash tune. When I decided I had to do something with my 2016 I just dropped in a close calibration and street tuned it. The wide open is questionable but everything in the normal riding areas of the tune I am very satisfied with.
I am an adult?? When did that happen, and how do I make it stop?!

I'm in the same situation but here in Northern Ontario.
Same for tuner, I love my Power vision With the wide band O2 sencors. Haven't heard of a good tuner close by.
F.K.

My smart ass comments were not directed at any riders that put work and family responsibilities before themselves, I completely respect and admire that.

I'm in northern Alberta and several years ago through research done on HTT, and after a few less than mediocre tunes, I had decided on a trip to either Hayward Ca or Prescott Eh Zed when I learned about a young fella only 800 miles away tuning on Vancouver Island.
Several visits over the years tuning a few different builds and several modifications there is nothing quite like riding a perfectly tuned bike every time you ride. We kinda all deserve that tune, especially when we put family first.

Tuner? I'm all for it. It's as close as your nearest Subway. Fridays are tuner sub day all day.

Enjoy!

If you rode the same bike tuned, and not tuned.......you'd want the tuned version.

:agree: Much nice throttle response in my experience.
But what do I know? I drive a party bus.
