A friend has a 75 Superglide. he said it was a dry clutch but had a little oil in the primary. I thought they were wet clutches. Which is it and if wet how much oil goes in the primary. Thanks for the help

Dry clutches are run with belts, wet clutches are run with chains. If it is stock, it is wet.

Factory '75 Shovel has a dry clutch. The very small amount of oil present is from the chain lube system, that also sucks out the oil once it drops to the base of the primary. If it's been converted to an oil filled primary, it would be best to run clutch material that is suited for oil bath.

Well that shows you what I know. Carry on.

I am doing this over the phone. How does the stock set up get oil is it like the early sportsters and share engine oil. It has been at least 50 yrs since I had an early XLCH so I might be wrong about the oil.

I isolated my Primary and put about 20 ounces in just to the bottom of the clutch basket and it is good to go.

In it's own fluid.....atf.....right to the bottom of the basket.
Leave the oil feeder hole open for a vent.

I've run just about everything and anything in my shovel's sealed primary. I've been running a Rivera Pro clutch for approximately 30,000 miles, most of that with Redline MTL to the bottom of the clutch basket and Redline Shockproof Heavy in the trans.

My RevTech (yeah I know, BLASPHEMY) 5 inna 4 shifts more quietly than the factory 4 speed ever did and a helluva lot more quietly than the 6 speed slam drive in my 12 EG.

You have to seal the primary air tight so it is under vacuum from the return oil hose, or you will have a very wet clutch.

As long as there's suction on the return hose, it'll pull the oil in as oil covers the level to the opening to the hose fitting. As the oil covers the fitting opening, a solid suction is accomplished. That's why there's always about a half a cup of oil in the primary when you open it.

It was one of those off the wall things HD did that was totally weird for me.  It gets it's oil from the oil pump and sucks it back. Just what I want to run through my engine...oil from the primary.
