i have an electa glide where you remove the 3 windshield screws then remove windshield. the outer fairing is removed by taking out the four torx screws securing it to the inner fairing.....left and right by the speakers and left and right down below....look for them with a flashlight.

Mine is a 99 RG so I don't know how much they have changed.

There are 3 screws on each side of the fairing..one at each bottom corner, one by each speaker and at the corner of the winshield.

Take the windshield off first by just removing the middle screw and lossening the others and slipping the winshield off.

There are two acorn nuts on both side of the fairing at the bottom.  Remove these and slip out the bracket from the inside that the nuts screwed to.

Slip off the fairing, it may seem very tight but if you move it just the right way it will almost literally fall off so hold if firmly

Un hook both headlights and set the fairing aside.

When re installing do not forget to hook your headlights back up before completely attaching fairing   :embarrassed:

When fitting the fairing back on you will need to be very patient.  There are sets of tabs at each screw hole that must be properly aligned or you will have issues.  All three must be aligned together because you can get the top two screws in only to find out the bottom tab missed just slightly and vicesa versa..

i may not explain to well but this is how my 99 RG goes and I have had the fairing of and on at leat 15 times

And don't foreget to put the bracket with the acorn nuts back on (although you can ride a few thousand mile with out them I wouldn't suggest it )

The screws in the holes on the bottom are longer than the others, make sure you put them back in the correct position. When removing the fairing make sure you have protection on the fender so you can rest the fairing on it while you disconnect the headlight. grab the fairing below the headlamp assembly and lift up and out to disengage the hooks. When you reinstall place the fairing on the hooks and gently push back and down above the head light to engage the hooks.

Manuel can usually be found lingering in front of Home Depot. :D
I suggest that you buy a Service Manual.

I believe Stroker Dave covered the high points.  I found that the fairing went back on to the hooks easier without the windshield.  Just make sure the windshield retainer nuts are in good shape or they will fall into the inner fairing when you install the windshield and you will have to start all over again.  The windshield retainer nuts are inexpensive and can be had at your local dealer.  Also, there are a couple stand outs that align the outer and inner fairing on each side.  Make sure they are engaged correctly before you tighten anything down.  Its one of those jobs that will take twice as long the first time versus the second.  Good luck!

Take your headlight lens cover off first.  When you go to put the fairing back on , look at the back side. You will see the headlights are held in with snap-lock nuts. You just squeeze the sides of the nuts and pop out the headlight assembly. Now you acn put the fairing back on. This will save you about 45 min. and 12 advil trying to get the fairing on the hooks. when installed, you plug the headlights back in and the unit snaps back in place. Does not mess with alignment of the headlights. This is not in the manual and is free. :teeth:

Do you have any tips for removing the headlight lens?

StrokerDave

Look carefully at the bottom of the lens about 1 " from the side, that's where the latches are. A wooden tongue depressor or popsicle stick inserted between the fairing and the lens will release the tab.
