I was told yesterday that my recent upgrade to a 124"/150+ HP in my 09 SG could possibly be the cause of my severe vibration damage to my stock HK head unit. Although this issue has happened twice before the upgrade as well. Both fairing brackets, riser bolts, speaker brackets had been replaced years ago and still in working order.

My motor is balanced and blueprinted and has never been this smooth. Anyone else having any issues with their radio with a high horsepower build?

i think you answered your own question "this issue has happened twice before the upgrade"

How old is the headunit and is it the same headunit that keeps getting fixed or has it been replaced?

Original head unit keeps getting fixed. I was told the first time that HK are built for the road and Harley Vibration and aftermarkets were no good....

Oh yeah I'm approaching 70,000 miles

Who's doing the repairs if you don't mind sharing?

Well this last repaired main board failed again. It lasted 5 weeks. I'm done having band aides put on this thing. Time for a new unit. Any suggestions? TIA

Have you tried Iron Cross Audio? they warranty their work and specialize in Harmon Kardon head units they are a site sponsor -

Pleasing everyone is impossible, but pissing everyone off is a piece of cake.

Well I put in another HK head unit out of a 2013 with low miles and it is now doing the same thing after 3 months :banghead: I'm out of ideas as what it could be.

I had trouble with my HK unit. I found two cracked fairing brackets and it was letting the radio vibrate against the handlebar clamp bolts.
I clearanced the heads of the bolts so they were even with the handlebar clamps when tight. I replaced the cracked fairing mounts with the Strong Arm mounts. I sent the radio to Iron Cross Audio and I put it back in after they repaired it. Three years later...and I have not had any more radio problems.

Exactly....l've replaced fairing brackets, riser bolts per HD service bulletin and speaker brackets years ago. New front motor mount when we built the 124. The orginal head unit had been repaired 3 times. I just can't figure it out :emoGroan:

Ron I not sure the horse power will cause damage to the radio but your bike makes a hand full of it . Maybe this time I can keep my engine together long enough to find out lol

Could change it up a little bit, try an alternative. Do a radio delete and add a Metra BLUETOOTH Flush Mount Audio Receiver  unit plus a small amp  :idunno:

I fixed that for you!

Well I've been riding without a radio and am ok without one for now. I realized how quiet this motor actually is!!
Gonna finish the riding season without it. Looking at maybe trying an Aquatic AV unit or something like it for next season.

I'm still trying to solve my issue. I just read in another thread about another radio repair company "Radio Sound Inc". Has anyone had any experience with their services? TIA

Radio Sound will not repair an HK radio. You need to send it to Iron Cross Audio. They will repair the unit and do additional mods to make the unit vibration resistant.

Tireman

That's just it they repaired it three times now.t
They keep saying I have a vibration problem but I have fixed everything that was suggested and some. I have a balanced and blueprinted motor. I just can't figure it out
