Why is it that everytime I leave that place I am totally aggravated?  Or is it just me?

i go there alot so know pretty much where everythings at,avoiding the orange shirts.i like it also because i dont have to deal with counter people at the other places[plumbing and elec supply houses] everything is right out in the open, for instance ,i can go there and build my sink trap setup in the aisle and leave with it,without buyin a bunch of extra elbows and such.

JamLazyAss

That's easy.
Probably because you just spent a ton of cash, including your First Communion Money!

Well I can say, that even with 18 years now on the job (LEO) I had never had to take stress medication.......until the one day I totally flipped out in Home Depot and actually began throwing PT 2x4's across the parking lot because I was so pissed off at a couple of the idiots there.  My wife said "that's it, you're going to the doctor."  Been on meds ever since  :emsad:

i like LOWE`S better..

PoorUB

I don't have any problems with the home stores in my area. When I go in, I don't expect much, and they never fail to meet my expectations!! :hyst:
I am an adult?? When did that happen, and how do I make it stop?!

we had a Lowe's long before the home depot was built, right across the street.  we had been shopping at lowe's for everything, and everytime we went in, turned down an aisle, the helper would dart out the other end........went to home depot and everybody in there has a smile, says "hi", "can i help you", "if you need something, i'll be right over there".......haven't needed anything at lowe's since!!  just depends on the store management.......some care, some dont. :potstir:

I'm with Dakota, I prefer Lowe's.  They're just nicer stores for the most part.  But I'm like PoorUB too - I don't expect much from either one.  In fact - I don't expect much from any retail establishment any more. I mean, how much can you really expect from a store where the cashiers can't speak english (either speaking mexican or eubonics) and don't have a clue how to make change without the register telling them?

Menards is the only place to go in the midwest

we have a new "Home Despot" here in town, but lately we have been driving 25 miles to shop at the Lowes for things other than just the nut and bolt things, better selection as well as just being more appealing to shop at.

MENARD'S, home of the mongoloid look and world famous shrug of the shoulders after being asked any question other than where's the restroom.

There's a Lowes and a Home Depot across the street from each other, about 2 miles from my house. I have found that particular Home Depot is really crappy. Can't find anything, can't find any help that knows what is going on, the store is usually a mess. The Lowes across the street is much better.

If I feel the urge to go to a Home Depot, I go halfway across the county, or I'll drive 30 miles south to go to a decent one. I've given up on the Home Depot near my house.

I was a little stunned at Ace Hardware the other day. They are usually good, but I think they hired some Home Depot flunkies. I got helped by another customer......

I have to agree with Brick1. The store management has allot to do with it. That and how much the regional management is squeezing them to cut back as much possible. It's hard to get good help on part time wages. I have both stores about 5 miles away from my front door and there almost next door to each other. Most times it a crap shoot on the service your going to get on a given day.  I've had good and bad experiences with both stores.

Quality of products and number of options is all that counts to me. As long as the store has good stuff and lots of choices, they are on the top of my list.  What I find is Lowes or Home Depot can bounce between #1 and #2 in any given week.

As far as getting advice from the folks at Home Depot OR Lowes, lets face it, if they are willing to work oddball shifts for close to minimum wage, what kind of answers do you expect?  Sure, I know some may have been tradesmen at one time, but unless they left due to age or health to move on to a hardware store , you have to question just how good they were in the first place.  Since I don't carry an ageometer or healthometer with me, I seldom rely on the store folks for assistance unless I need something carried to the car.  Sorry, but that is a hard cold fact.

My biggest complaint is how long it takes to check out of the store.  If it weren't for the self-checkout aisle, I'd cut down a tree and whittle my own 2x4s...

Another big problem is the Ma & Pa hardware stores can't compete and we're losing them.......Nothing like the feel and smell of REAL hardware stores [or lumber yards]...I still like buying nails by the pound not sealed in plastic.....

The little hardware stores are great, the guy behind the counter knows where everything is and most often , how to use it.
And the floors creak with every step.
There is one in Topton that is having a going out of business sale after 99 years. :emsad:

I take Wednesdays off work and work on Saturday.  I found day time during the week has the A team of employees on duty and they aren't nearly as busy as evenings and weekends when the part timers are on duty.

I flat refuse to go into our local Lowes until they take the "Entrada" off the front doors and the rest of the spanish signage from the inside.
We have a relatively small number of Mexicans here, there's no reaosn to include Spanish signage in the stores. If they want to shop they can learn English.

I have Emailed Lowes corporate several times on this issue, their response is "we have to be sensitive to our immigrant customers."

BS, my relatives are all German immigrants, I don't see German signage in the stores.

That said, I like Home Depot over Menards, but I have had decent experiences in both lately.

seattledyna

yes, the small hometown hardware store!

Here in Placerville CA we have the oldest hardware store west of the Mississippi, 1850 to be exact, I go there for nails etc, unusual things and just plain old fashioned perfect service! My family has been shopping there for 80 years...good enough for me!
They dont have lumber or large items but you would be totally surprised at what they DO have.

I stopped buying from Home Depot since they started sponsoring Toyotas in NASCAR.  Lowe's is now my store since then.

One thing that tiss's me off about Lowe's is on the book rack where they have all those do it yourself  books and such they have a book titled "How To Communicate With Your Hispanic Construction Worker". Its hard enough to find work with people working for chump change and driving the wages down.

Sounds like you should support Home Depot for sponsoring Toyota. Toyota builds more cars in the USA than the other auto makers that are sucking on the government tit.

I hope you didn't go there expecting someone to help you find anything! That would be asking too much.
