I had to ask this questions.....with the specs relatively close to each other........what about the SE 204 cam vs some of these.

CndUltra88

Roy, what motor you putting them in?
I have the 203's  on the 95 BB.
I have no ping when running premium fuel.
I currently ahve the HD stage 1 flash also.
I had 69.78 Hp and 76 ft pound Trq when it
was an 88 Cui and had the PCIII in it.

While these THREADS are close to one another right now, eventually these THREADS will be spread apart and for someone reading months from now perhaps a "LINK" would be nice:

Rob,
It will eventually go into a 2009 Heritage Softail...96"................I built and sold an 08 Ultra with a crane 290, SE ACR heads, and a race tuner............97hp, and 107 lbs of TRQ. But That bike wasn't me man. It went good, pulled hard, but not where I wanted...........if you were belo 3200rpm's , the bike was just a bit more than stock......punch it, and it went 65-100+ real quick......but the mileage suffered ..like 30mpg's.
I am looking for 90-100 numbers with a 96". That pulls 1800-5500 rpms. More so in the lower range. Working at a dealership I get good buys, but I don't need a drag bike.

FWIW, the MOCO techies don't recommend the 203, 204, 211 cams for the new stuff. Seems they are glitchy and can be tough to tune. They favor the 255, 251, etc cams that were designed for the 96 and up motors. Those will bolt right in and are easily tuned...

Might be cause they only want to used the canned grab & a download. The 204 if tuned properly should run circles around any of the others but it will require somone that knows how to tune it.

I would like to brag on a dealer here.  I have 204s in my bagger along with the 103BB, installed and dyno tuned by Mancuso Central in Houston, and I'm here to tell you my bike really runs great!  Lots of grins when I ride, and I'm happy to give credit to the Mancuso crew for some great dyno work!  So, I agree that the 204s can be a dynamite setup when they are done right.

Most bike problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebar to the seat

I personally have the 204 in my 05 95" bagger and am quite happy with them. However, the question was specific to the 09 96". Although quite do-able, the 'older' cams are a bit trickier to tune with the newest generation fuel system. However, I've seen some good numbers from them when done right.

These are all good reply's, and informative. One think I did not mention is I do not plan on having to do any headwork. Is the 255 going to cause any drive train noise ? The ultra we built was a bit ticky for me with a .570 lift. And I realize the 255 is not guite as aggressive. Not bad, but I like the sneaky sleeper power train's.

I have the 204's in my 96" 08 RKC. Had them in my 99 RK and my 01 RK. Liked them in both and like them even better in
the 96". Great throttle response, excellent low end torque, and pulls hard all the way through. Pipes, AC, 204's, PCV, and a
tune.  Nothing else done and I'm real happy with the way it runs. ( dyno sheet posted a couple of weeks ago)

As a side note- I had a map preloaded in the PCV for my components and it ran pretty decent that way. The dyno tune only
picked up a couple of points in peak #s -- but it picked up over 7tq between 2,300 and 3,000. A much crisper throttle
response and seat of pants feel was much better than the #'s showed. Best return in performance for $160 that I have spent !

Thanks a bunch everyone....I am leaning into the 204 , a good tuner( SE super tuner, or the TTS Master tuner). I also will add a 2-1 exhaust.(Super Trapp, Fat Cat, or the Vance & Hines ). Won't be until after Sturgis this year, but I will post numbers after we are done.
On a side note.we just bolted the 204 into my brothers '06 Dyna Low Rider with a Master Tuner.............The bike pulls hard, and has never ran so good.......SE II slip ons. SE AC,and the TTS Master tuner.................85hP, & 87lbs TRQ..............You have to watch it coming out of a corner now. :smiled:Granted not a dragster, but what a blast to ride.
Thanks again  for all the help. :smiled:
