My problem is after I ride for 100 or so miles my butt is on fire and nothing to do with fatigue. I have the riders back rest and it is great.

I appreciate all of the suggestions.

Mean City does a nice job, the key IMO is using the right foam for your weight so you don't crush it. We went back and forth a couple times and it was worth the effort, pleasant and professional folks.

I am able to ride tank to tank when I go out west (from CT) on my Mustang Sport Touring seat, but there is more to the equation.

As said before, everyone's ass is different. What works for me might not work for you.

But I use a sheepskin pad all the time, and to change things up I'll use the bead seat under the sheepskin. In hot weather it keeps the boys cooler. I also use either bicycle shorts, or at the very least those moisture wicking underwear. (Under my jeans of course-lol). I see there is a company called Moto-skiveez or something like that that makes padded shorts for motorcycle riders. Havent tried them yet.

I recently bought some armored riding pants that are heavily vented. I bought them more for my on/off road bike, but I gotta say, they a way cooler than jeans. Havent tried them on the Harley yet.

But the best thing I did, comfort wise, was to mount my highway pegs way down low, almost even with the floorboards. Being able to move my legs around and change up my seating position. I can hook my heels on the pegs, but the most comfortable position is having my heels on the floorboards and toes on the highway peg mounts. These are the Harley mounts that bend around the lower fairing.

Hope this helps

Tom

:agree: Allen tailors your seat based on your bike, current seat, your weight and height, and can add gel, memory foam....etc. he's a easy guy to talk to and can answer all your questions

Why is it on fire?

If it's due to heat, then beads will help a lot as it allows air to circulate under you.
If it's due friction against the seat material than sheep skin cover will help as it acts as a soft absorbing barrier between your butt and the bike.
If it's due to your whole crotch and butt being soaked with sweat, then use the beads, or "Go Commando".

I don't know Darren, I think you are getting a little long in the tooth, how bout one of those rings they give people after hemorrhoid surgery.
If you don't have a sense of humor you probably have no sense at all.

Is it worth the extra $39.00 for the Ultimate vs the Classic? These look awesome. I gotta get one.

I would look at a pair of Diamond Gusset jeans, can't ride in Levi  or Lees anymore. Regular fit,the relaxed flap around, too much material.

I made a call to Mean City and got on the schedule to get a seat built.

We will see how that goes, then make other changes as suggested as needed. Thanks again for the input.

..the seams on denim pockets and carrying wallets or whatever play havoc on my skinny ol' butt..cargo style pants with no seams in the ass also help...my wallet is never a problem...there's nothing in it  !!!... :embarrassed:... :hyst:

I haven't carried a wallet for 35 years or more, for that reason, and to not have a bunch of crap in it that I don't need.
Durwood, good luck, I'll be very interested in how that works out for you.

Yes, the quality is better. The ceramic beads hold up better than wood. If you ride a lot and end up in the rain the wood beads don't hold up.
I am an adult?? When did that happen, and how do I make it stop?!

I pretty much ride everywhere on a "LeBoarda" or the stock seat.  I don't have any productive suggestions.  :hyst:  I do suffer a bit around 100-150 miles, but once gassed up and back on the bike it isn't a problem until about 5-600 miles.   So my(not very serious) suggestion, push through it.   :teeth:    Every butt IS different.

Check out RDL- Russel Day Long in Redding, Caiif. Riders on other sites swear by them.

I too have a sundowner on a roadking with a back rest and it is an easy 600 mile a day seat. I think the beads are a good deal too altho I don't use them but I have. Like hoss said you can demo a sundowner from Harley and you will know right away if you like it. It really fits me good!

I carry a wallet, but it goes into the jacket pocket, or the tor pack.

Ok not sure what I am doing wrong. After a five day ride in 80 to 100F and suffering from swamp-ass I read the reviews on beadrider and here, bought a 13 x 13 Ultimate for my 12 EG's saddle and expected ass nirvana. I was not all that impressed but felt it was a little small for the seat (my ass is narrow not the seat) so I sent it back, swapped for a 15 x 15.  That gave me total seat coverage plus it wrapped up to cover the tailbone. Now I feel like I am sliding forward plus I am inseam challenged so it does raise me enough to notice the difference. I could live with that but not the sensation of sliding forward and jamming my drawers into my crotch. Bamboo drawers no less.  I tried it on a 120 mile ride with my wife this weekend and liked it less and less toward the end.  I removed it for now.

Been wearing Diamond Gusset jeans and only Diamond Gusset jeans for years. Love em.

Daren,
Been through several seats on the 09 from the stock to the Mustang and all have fell short of the comfort I had on my 06. From the research that I have been doing my next try will probably be a Russell Day Long. They are pricey but I have not been able to find anyone who has not been completely happy with them and most claim 1000 mile days with no problems

 :agree: This is where I always end up when I research seats. I have never taken the expensive plunge however if I had not spent money on all those seats along the way I could have had at least two Russell seats done.  :banghead:

Beadrider recommends a 14x14 for an E-Glide.

Not sure why it didn't do anything for you, your are the first person I have heard give so-so review.

I'm sure it did cure the swamp butt, just the change in seating you didn't like.

I guess some you guys are just a little sensitive than others!

I got a Sundowner also after the 3 stock pillow seats all came apart at the seams literally.  It has held up really well for a long time now.  I didn't like it at first but now I do.  I use it with a backrest, and yes on a trip of any length the wallet gets tossed into the saddlebag (ditto on the wallet for riding in a car).  I think sometimes the nerves in your butt and legs just give out,  and 400 miles on a bike or 600 in a car is all I can take in one day.  Things start hurting after that and I am not in that much of a hurry anymore.

I've actually never ridden a more comfortable seat than whats on my 2014 Limited. Just did a 3800 mile trip to SD, Wy. UT and Montana and other than just plan getting hot my butt was fine.

Doctor asked me if I had problems with my legs hurting after vascular surgery. I told him my legs are great now but my ass hurts after riding about 100 miles. He asked if I stopped for a break when this happened. I said after about 10 minutes I was good to go again. Doctor said it was probably because the blood in my ass was being blocked or slowed by sitting for so long.
