Steve at GMR built my bottom end w/RR crank and a Woods 6, RR heads, Axtell cyls.
I'm running a Supertrapp 2-1with stock throttle body and tuning w/TMax autotune.
I heat cycled it a coupla times last nite and again this morning. Had some odds and ends to finish up. The rain is moving out and I'll be taking it for a trial run shortly.
Oh yeah, it's a 03 bagger and I'm not trying to build a hotrod, just a good strong dependable motor that I hope to put many trouble free miles on. I'm outta here, will report back this evening. Ambush :teeth:

Well, I am at work now (3-11) but I did get to put about 25 miles on it. Course I'm keeping it under 3500 rpm and not really rompin' on it. I forgot to mention that I have changed to an 07 rear pulley and belt which means I'm geared higher w/a 66 tooth pulley so the change that I feel won't be as dramatic as it would had I left the 70t on it. It is very well mannered but gets serious when you twist the wick. I'm liking it and looking forward to getting past the break in so I can tach it up. Ive got a purdy good knock sounds like on the front top, I'm thinking I need to check clearence on the rocker box even though the Woods 6 is only 510 lift. I hope it's nothin' anymore serious than that.

Glad to hear she is up and running.

What are you running for rocker boxes?  Stock or TP's?

Have you checked for clearance on pre-assembly?

Ram,
Probably not like a real mechanic would.

Ambush,
Keep us posted on your progress. I'm building a 117 as well but slightly different from yours. Hopefully I'll be able to start reassembly next week. Thanks

I know you wouldn't want any future damage to your new build.

Its well worth it at this time to open the rocker boxes and check for clearance issues at this time before something gets bent or jammed up with higher RPMs.

It won't take all that long to check and fix at this stage in the break in.  The most it would cost you would be a fresh set of gaskets at that and several hours to open, assess, fix and re-assemble.

Steve clearenced everything but rocker boxes cause he didn't have them. I'll be pulling em tomorrow to check em.

Pulled the front rocker cover and didn't see any indication the knock was coming from there. Rode it some more and I sure am liking the feel of the VPC. I assume that is the main difference although I put a new Energy One Kevlar clutch pack in it and changed to B&M Trickshift fluid. That's the thing about doing multiple changes at the same time, you can't be sure to what extent what effect what had. Oh well, it's running real strong, the TMax seems to have dialed right in but I'm concerned about that knock. I'll call Steve tomorrow and see what he thinks. And my turn signals don't cancel now, is that a function of the TMax? Ambush

What compression figures have you calculated that your running?

Is it just one jug or both?

Could it be pre-detonation?

Steve is a great guy!!! Get on the phone and ask him what the problem is!!!!Will resolve the issue faster than posting on a forum.

In The Wind

Could it be a loose compensator nut?

ambush

I never heard one with a loose compensator nut so I don't know what it would sound like but I can't imagine it sounding like this does. Ambush

The loose compensator nut sounds similar to a rod knock. I had one loose on my 05 RK. Use a thesiscope or a big screw driver to trouble shoot it.

Give me a ring, and get this noise taken care of.

Quit riding it until you get it sorted out,

Stuff like that can get expensive

For rocker clearance you need to see how close the intake and exh valve springs are to the area where the bolt for the cover comes into the lower rocker box.

Normally with any high lift cam or performance valve springs the bottom of the part the bolt comes into has to be relieved,

Are you hearing a knock or tapping sound...

ambush

I'm definitely not riding til it's sorted out.
Just to clarify, Steve built the bottom end and it was nice and smooth. I did the top end myself and the primary of course. I'll start by checking the compensator and if that's not it I'll look at the lower rocker boxes. Steve explained to me what to look for which I didn't understand at first so there may be a clearence issue there. The Woods 6 is really quiet, prolly cause the trueness of the crank. This is dragging out too much cause of my work schedule but I'll get there. I'm in a bad riding deficit and and need to get my knees in the breeze.Ambush
