Hello everyone,
I'm considering replacing my 89 xlh engine with a '97 engine. Luckily I have the late frame so the kickstand should be ok.
I have the stock rear sprocket which is flat, can anyone recommend a 23 tooth transmission sprocket to fit a five speed which will be in line with this so I can simply keep my existing four speed chain and rear sprocket?

Closest thing that come to mind, would be an aftermarket 23T version of  OEM 37709-89 for the -91 chain driven 883.

But of course, you would need to check and possibly shim rer wheel sprocket. It's a long time since I did such a conversion, but I don't think there was much more to it.

Just in case, resurrecting a dead thread, to line up the front and rear sprockets on a 1997 motor 89 frame, just use the shouldered conversion nut to make up for the thinner chain sprocket than the pulley.
Otherwise it is a straight swap
Xlfan was right with the sprocket choice
