High idle

2015 FXDL, took the exhaust off to have a crack in header pipe welded. Put it back on, start it up, check for leaks. Then I notice the idle is at 1500 RPM. Turn the bike off, and scratch my head. Restart bike walk around looking and thinking, idle slows down to about 1000 RPM. All's good. The question is, what could possibly have caused this?

The throttle position when you shut it off before doing the work was memorized and that's where it started out on the next restart.   When you shut it off the second time you must have been hands off and it healed itself.
