Working on a friends 1987 1100. The rear brake line goes to a pressure activated switch that illuminates the brake light when you hit the rear brake. The front brake has nothing and doesn't activate the rear brake light, is this how it should be? Is there a way to tap the front brakes into that pressure switch so they both activate the brake light?

I don't know what you mean by that..., but the front brake control should have a stoplight switch that activates the brake light.

The parts catalog for the 1987 1100 is available online at 1986-1990 XLH Models Parts Catalog and lists the switch as 71574-82 under Handlebar Switches

Maybe the pushrod has been dislocated out of the little pin in the lever?
