considering to deal on an 08 electra glide std with less than 5,000 miles. Any particular issues to be wary of on this model?

Doesnt the warrenty transfer to the new owner?
you should be able to access bike history via a dealership with the VIN
and that should give you some more ideas as to if it is a good deal.

I have an 2004 flht,I love it.If your going start adding things like a radio, tour pack  ,chrome the motor up,lower fairing's ,your better off to buy an ultra or a classic. For me I did not want any of that stuff,so the standard was a good buy for a tour bike.

Depending on the build date, the 08's only had the fuel filter shell recall.  No big deal, but make sure it was done if it was within the build date range.  Some complain of rear brake squeal and they have a tech bulletin on that with an "anti-noise paste" that can be applied to the pads.  Depending on what you're coming from you may notice a big difference in the heat, they put out a lot of heat.  I have an 08 Ultra and it is a great bike with no problems.  If you're not used to the TBW that can be different for some as well.

I have one, I LOVE IT!!!!!....no problems so far with 20,000Kms on her. As far as the heat issues go I have only experienced a bad one while stuck in Sydney peak hour traffic during a REALLY hot summers day. 99.999% of my riding is open road where I've encountered no problems at all.

HOT!!!!!!!!!!

Ditto.

Unless you're getting a steal, i'd suggest waiting for a low mileage '09 that has a better frame... and stock heat shields under your azz
It slid 112 feet and I had no road rash

.. my EVO burned a piston on Saturday, so I went ahead and got this one. Bike is a little over a year old with 2500 miles. big difference from a soft tail. Being short, (5'6") I need to lower it a couple of inches. I need some helpful advice with that..

Try a Reach seat and/or you can get the following

Profile® Low Touring Front Lowering Kit 54628-06 MSRP US $99.95
Profile® Low Touring Shocks 54631-02B MSRP US $279.95

Thanks,...already was checking on the shocks....what is a reach seat??

IndyHarley

I believe the Reach seats are HD seats with that name that also tend to seat you lower in the saddle - and I am guessing if memory serves me correctly about an inch lower.

Don't get me wrong - I have an '08 Ultra Anniversary and it is probably the best riding HD I have ever had but it is hot and partly because of my height - if I were over 6' tall my legs would be in a different position and that could alleviate some of the heat but at 5' 10" my legs are right in the path of the exhaust heat and it is hot - I got 2nd degree burns on my legs once but I do different type of riding than just open road - I do many funeral processions and parades through the IN Patriot Guard.

Sometimes a new pair of boots with more heel & sole will help give a lowering effect for less cost.

Having the stock seat redone and shaved down will lower it and add confort as well. Meancity cycles in NC is one option for seat work.
