Some pics of a damaged motor.
S&S 111, front piston and head. Rear not as bad but very black under piston as well.

Don D

S&S warranty may help. If not perhaps a KB piston can be used and bore to the next oversize.
This may take some rework as the compression height of their pistons are not the same as the S&S.

Burnout

Is this the motor that had the Dyna S ignition on it?

Admiral Akbar

Probably from too much fuel and too much timing.

choseneasy

I would agree on the timing— he dialled it back to limp it home.
Fuel- I'm not sure- he was running good mileage but did go upon elevation.
I'm still looking at a possible oiling issue.

Plugged or loose piston oiler? :nix:

choseneasy

That was my thoughts.... maybe loose and lost some oil pressure leaking into case?
I think that and detonation were a cumulative effect.

koko3052

I think you know your cause. Wasn't there a thread recently about the 111 having loose oilers & I think FSG commented on them.

choseneasy

Not sure if it was about a 111- thought it was on stock bikes.
I will keep posting as I tear it down.

Don D

Ask BVHOG, he has fixed them. This is becoming a common affair with the late 4.125" bore S&S motors, sorry to report. I have fixed them with KB pistons +.010.

nosjunkie

Do you have a pic of the plug? it looks like the ground strap has burnt back... Exhaust valve looks like it got lean....
LIVE FREE OR DIE..

Burnout

Detonation will spike the cylinder head temps big time

I will check into the KB pistons and PM BVHOG if he doesn't stumble on this thread.
I'll get a pic of plug.

Don D

You use a 117" piston and will need to shave about .030 off. Check piston to piston in the motor. Should be OK with the shorter stroke than the 117".
I could handle the job for you turnkey and I am a KB dealer.

choseneasy

I will keep you in mind- thanks for the info!
