Does the Quad seal have a groove that it rests in when installed?  I tried to feel for a groove but could not find one.  I took a magnifying glass...along with my glasses and still could not see it (if it does exist).  The old seal that came out (60,000 miles) was twisted.  It also appeared to have been pressed in against the taper thus forming the triangular shape of the distorted Quad seal.  Should the seal be coated with anything other than oil to help it "seat"?  Thanks.  Bill

No groove, it just rests against the bearing. Make sure the chamfer in the seal spacer goes toward the quad seal.

Lube it up with oil or vaasline.  Helps it from twisting.

While we're on quad seals, why a "quad" seal? The Ultima trans I took apart uses a regular O-ring.
