My friends 2008 Ultra (140K) he has noticed a fuel smell lately when he pulls into the garage and we believe it is the fuel tank vent.  Looking in my 2008 Parts Book the fuel vent does not appear to be sole separately from Top Plate on the tank, it looks like all one unit.

My question, is it possible to just change the vent valve?

There are two plastic hoses (27291-08 and 27440-08) connected to each other and the tank vent by short rubber hoses. The hoses deteriorate, and some times leak enough to allow the fuel smell. Try replacing just the rubber pieces with short sections of vent hose from your local parts store. (I'd just carry the upper piece to them and that way they don't have guess what size)
Ignorance is bliss, and accuracy expensive. How much of either can you afford?

Thanks, will certainly try this first.
