Anyone using JIMS tools for wheel bearing changes?  HD here won't sell their tools "over the counter" anymore so looking for quality aftermarket tools

We have one that I use way too often .  Front bearings don't like running in the snow.  Replacement colletts are available cheap on ebay too. Well built tool.

Motion Pro provides the least expensive tool

Have you used this tool? Looks like the only way to expand/set the collet is by hand? Don't think that would work for me. :embarrassed:

I have this one as well. Works fine for 1" and 25mm.  My experience has not been good with it on 3/4 bearings though.

I've used that deal once and that was enough. A real cave man experience, I tell you. A last resort tool or me.  Spend a bit more and go with a better product.

Maybe you needed a bigger hammer?

The heartland and george's install tool bearing holders are cut wrong and will cause heavy side load on the bearing from the center spacer. Bearing will die.  They need to be cut flat.  They would work well if HD could cut the inner spacer and bearing seats to the same length but they don't.

I used the biggest one I could find in the end. :hyst: Even had to use a backing bar to get the wedge tight enough into the slit and grab the bearing. Cave man tool, I say again, but it's made with high quality steel if nothing else.

I have this one and have used it several times on 1" bearings. Works like a charm. No 3/4" experience. I did have the bearing holders machined flat years ago after seeing it mentioned here.

they work fine if you flip the bearing forcing plates over to the flat side. No clue why they cut the recesses in the plates.
I am an adult?? When did that happen, and how do I make it stop?!

We use the Jim's tool on all 3 sizes.  Works well for all of them.

Read that years ago and just turned the holders around once past opening.
Could get them flattened but not worth the effort and still WAY WAY cheaper than Jims and it does no difference in the end.

I've got the Georges Garage tool, and have used it more times than I can count.  The trick is to start the secondary bearing, get it about half way in the bore, then flip the presser disk so the flat side finishes the installation of the secondary bearing.  This way you can avoid side load and get a nice proper installation.

Got tired of unscrewing the nut and removing the tool to flip the bearing so I machined them flat.  I also had to trim the 25mm removal tool as it wouldn't fit through the bearing.

Yep, I remember that.  I like what you did to make the job faster and easier.
