Didn't want to hijack the other thread so here is mine:

My recently acquired 2016 FLSTC 103 HO is completely stock with cats still in place. I probably want to do a mild cam (Andrews 48, TW-222, CR 570-2 etc.) and exhaust +tuning with Power Vision or such.

For exhaust I have basically two options: slip-ons or Supermeg 2-1. Difference is about 300 Euros vs. 1000 Euros.

Should I choose to do just slip-ons - probably Khrome Werks 3" HP+ - how much "less" hp/tq am I looking at compared to doing a 2-1?

I'm not after the highest numbers, just would like to unplug the engine and make it run cooler and right.

I do like the sound of those Khrome Werks mufflers:

If you  like  the  sound  of  them get  them, I  got  88hp, and  I  think  it  was  94 ft lbs with  the  48 and  stock  mufflers  I removed  the  cat, dyno  guy  said  with  different  mufflers  could  get  another  8 or 9 hp but  after  over  40 years  of  riding  like  it quiet  now  lol.

Tune the cam you have, with the exhaust you like, and a hi flow AC.
103HO Softail would make 93tq/73hp stock, and 100/80 with slip-ons. I've seen 105/85 with the stock HO cam, SEHB, & VHSS.
Ignorance is bliss, and accuracy expensive. How much of either can you afford?

I'm under impression that the 103 HO cam is close to SE 255 cam. Is it so?

With mild cam, 2-1 and stock heads, are we looking at low or high 90 hp? Trying to figure out cost vs gain between slip-ons and 2-1.

Horsepower is a top end product.  I would look at torque and where it occurs.

My experience was with a '16 Limited, same cams. I bought a tuner, gutted the cat from the head pipe, different mufflers and tuned it. It made a large difference, very noticeable improvement. But I still wasn't satisfied. I put in a set of CR570 cams and got what I was after. Sorry, no dyno charts, street tuned with a TTS.

I felt the stock cams were choking it. They have very little overlap and die off early on the top end. If you never run it to red line, never cruise 80 MPH+, (130 KPH+) the stock cams will probably work for you.
I am an adult?? When did that happen, and how do I make it stop?!

Finn

Thanks, guys.

I just realized that this bike has the dreaded (?) C-lifters. Should I decide to change those as preventive maintenance might as well change the cams, too, I think.

Not wanting to hijack your thread either, but why are the C-lifters "dreaded"?

Finn

I have understood from several topics and sources that lifespan of the C-lifter is limited and can in some cases be surprisingly short.

I was informed by friendly Supertrapp customer service person that Supermeg 828-71690 is the one for my Heritage.

I was also informed that the O2 bungs on this exhaust have M12 thread.

Could you guys perhaps confirm that that is what the thread size of O2 sensors on 2016 bikes is?

They are the 4 wire, heated, 12mm bung size sensors, as seen here.

Did a little research on the C lifter thing. Looks like the change from the B's was made in 2012. I've seen some references to problems, but nothing along the line of say, M8 sumping or dissolving cam chain tensioner shoes.

2011 actually.  Some of the early 2011's got B lifters until stock was depleted. The later manufacture dates were C lifters

Regarding "C" lifters, I got my '12 Ultra two years old with 18,000 miles on it. The lifters clattered something terrible. The dealer agreed to put S&S lifters in it before the sale. Over 40,000 miles now and still quiet.
