I recently posted about "Upgrade to hydraulic tensioners"  as I just started working on a friend bike a 2000 Fatboy he just purchased. The motor has a dealer installed 95" cylinders with high compression pistons, stock heads, carburetor, and SE203 cams. Cranks over at 207 both holes. I had a build like this back in the early Twin Cam days that went through multiple starters and ring gears.  Any experience with a cam that would lower the cranking compression but not kill the bottom end! He doesn't have the money to do head work so I'm limited to a max .510 lift. Andrews has a TW31 cam with a with a 46 degree intake close with duration similar to the TW37 ??

That isnt the right approach.  Add compression releases.

I would be afraid of pinging but S+S510 ezstart?

Stock ignition? Tuned at 207 cranking should run and start OK>

I bet it has the "S.E. Race tuner" under the seat. If it truly is 207lbs I'd expect kickbacks on a "Hotsoak" restart.
Coming from a guy who changed cams based off of multiple false reading using multiple gauges. Confirm the CCP before anything else.

I never liked to run anything carbed past 195 and that took a bunch of tuning. That was about the limit for pump gas if you want to run any kind of timing, keep it start and touring friendly.
Speed costs money. How fast do you want to spend?

200 is our age-old threshold on injected bikes, and pull back to 195 or a tick less on a carbed bike.
Let the combo create the power, vs force-feeding compression.

Cams that will reduce CCP
Current- SE203,   36 close    207CCP
Kuryakyn TC1      41 close    202
Andrews TW37B   42 close    201
Andrews TW44     44 close    198
Harley SE211       45 close    197
Kuryakyn TC2       50 close   191
Ignorance is bliss, and accuracy expensive. How much of either can you afford?

I think the 211 requires different springs, but that might just be earlier heads.

SE 211 is only .508" lift I&E

Good to know. A friend had them in his '03 RK, I thought he needed springs to use them, I know they liked a little more compression. I remember them to be a top end cam.

he must like that engine, ... I had a 95" with SE203 cams, and that thing was so fun to ride, torque to no end, and I only had stock pistons.

I found a set of Andrews 31N cams with a 46 close and 236/240 duration. He doesn't  want to pull the heads. He wanted to get rid of the spring tensioners so this may work out.
From Andrews site:
Great cam for motors with 95 inches and 9.8 to 10.2 CR. Lower TDC lift for easy installation. Similar to TW37 with different timing. (2400–5600 RPM)
Hot street cams for 88 or 95 inches. 80+ rear wheel HP
