Only been out on the bike about 7 times this year so far.
Something told me to check the chain case for oil.
Wow, I added about 20 oz and brought it up to snuff.
No leaks what-so-ever and yes I had it full at every oil change.

Question is...............where did the oil go?
Have about 5k since last fill.

Did you check the motor oil?

it can take away everything you have.

Your primary/trans only holds 1 QT, should have left some evidence somewhere???
Ignorance is bliss, and accuracy expensive. How much of either can you afford?

If it is not leaking the transmission oil could have blown out of the breather but that would surely leave some oily fung somewhere?
The only other place it could go is through the tired old oil seal and into the crankcase.

Start her up and keep a close eye on the oil tank. Once that transmission oil in the crankcase gets sucked back into the oil tank there is going to be oil blooping out everywhere!

Or not. In which case the oil went somewhere else!

I always check the oil before every ride, short or long.
Crank oil level is where it should be and yes the case oil check was with the bike straight up and level.
No oil on ground or otherwise.  :nix:
Beats me.

It's a mystery. Keep an eye on it, maybe it was just one of those weird things that happen once in a while with no explanation found, no issues going forward. (Maybe it didn't get filled properly, forgot to do it, things happen)

I've had things like this happen to me... My age is posted on my profile ??
where's the points and condenser ?<br />Tom / aka motor

If it happens again, (fluid goes missing) pull the sprocket cover and inspect the 12030 seal in your main drive gear- I've seen those fail, and it'll drip onto the road when riding ( but usually leaves evidence on the right side).

Mystery oil follow up:
Decided to do a complete oil change, filter, primary case and crank.
Primary was last to do.
On draining the case, it let loose almost 1 & 3/4 quarts......yikes.
Thinking it was low on an earlier date, I poured in about 3/4 quart. ( now overfilled )
At that time, I tried checking the oil level with a flashlight ( couldn't see it ) and sticking my finger in the inspection hole
as far as I could .... no oil, so I added.
Refilled with a quart of Mobile one.
In summery........no oil missing or leakage.

QUESTION: How can the primary oil level be checked thru the inspection hole?

Seems as though to solve the case. The crank Seal is leaking (if I'm reading this right). Checking the Fluid Level in the primary is easilly dine with a Pen Light. Keep it at the bottom of the Hub for best results.

Thx Tom will try it the next time.
I tried a twisty tie bent 90 degrees and stuck it in still no reading.
I guess the tie was about 3" long.   Oh well, thx for the tip.

I had a look in the manual.
With the bike upright remove the clutch cover.
The oil level should be just touching the diaphragm spring.

Just measure the correct amount and keep an eye out for leaks.
Not leaking? Leave it be!

I suppose you could get one of those see-through clutch covers instead.
