The heat shield clips for the exhaust pipe where the crossover is / the left pipe joins the muffler have failed. It looks like both corrosion and bad spot welds / adhesion. 2013 FLTRU.
The part # is 65952-09 & it goes for $140.99. I'm not surprised. HD = $100  :emsad: Half Done also works.
The finish face is just fine. The screw clamps are fine. retaining clips? Not so much.
Has any one else had a problem like this and can you recommend an epoxy / JB Weld type of product that after cleaning the back side of the shield would have enough heat resistance to hold some at home fabbed clips to the shield?

If you know a good welder and I mean "good" they can tig those back on quite easily.
My son did a couple for me and only one has a slight blue mark on the chrome side which is barely noticable.

Ask here on swap meet, someone must have a heat shield laying around they would part with cheap. A lot of these stock exhaust parts just get tossed in the trash because the demand is so low.
I am an adult?? When did that happen, and how do I make it stop?!

A good well equipped body shop should be able to spot it back on with a spot (resistance) welder for a few bucks.  If there is a little spot yellowing, that will polish out with Neverdull or Brasso or any other good chrome polish or jeweler's rouge.

I have seen several of these go bad, my guess is, they are not coated or have any protection on them. After a rain or wash and the bike is not started, they sit there and corrosion begins the rusting process. I may have a couple, let me know if you need one.

Thanks to all who have responded.
I have seen some on Ebay & have had a complete set of chrome shield offered by a seller at a 35% discount. It isn't about the $ as much as getting them here because as those of us in the North Country know fall can roll in to winter really quick.
Helmwurst you have a PM.
Again Thanks. Brian

Mine broke on my ThunderHeader. To get me by until I repair or replace it (maybe) I wrapped some wire around it to hold it in place. Maybe not a great option if planning to repair, but if replacing, who cares if it gets a little marked up. It stopped the rattle.
