'05 Fatboy--Putting Mikuni HSR42 carb on --Manifold ??

Taking CV off bike and putting on Mikuni HSR 42. Street ported heads, DTT ignition, Andrews 37 cams, SE flat top cast pistons.
Any advantage to buying a Mikuni manifold or is the Harley stock manifold as good??

Mik manifold has NO short turn to speak of. The Harley stock manifold works perfectly good. You may want to lay the entrance back on the stocker a small amount.

 :kick:The Mikuni manifold has a diamond shape mounting flange for the carb which you bolt the carb mounting seal to.
This acyually pushes the whole carb outboard a tad so you then have problems trying to push the breather pipe mounts (To the head breather holes) flush. the whole setup will then come under stress causing air leaks at the manifold to head seals. I tried using the Arlen Ness backing plate/breather set up. No better.
Stick with the stock Harley intake manifold, it keeps the carb pulled nicely back between the cylinders with no stressing of the manifold seals.

S&S sells rubber coated washers to shim the breather mount posts.  They work well and when tightened down there is no shift in breather to manifold force, everything stays in place and the plus is they seal the ports.
