Friend has a softail and somebody cross threaded the drain plug. What would be the best way to fix this?

how bad is it?

a thread repair tool could perhaps recover it

there are back taps available, mostly for spark plug hole repair but others are available, I'd find one of them ASAP

going to look closer after the oil quits dripping. have to look into those back taps. thanks

Back taps work great, but because of their length, you have to remove one shock to get a straight shot.
Ignorance is bliss, and accuracy expensive. How much of either can you afford?

Never seen back taps before and trying to learn something here.  Other than the length, are they remarkably different from a "thread restorer"?

Never mind, I read about them and figured out how they work, interesting concept.

just on a quick search, I didn't see a 1/2"nf thread back tap. Shock removal is probably the safest way to get a good hole with a 1st. oversize 1/2" NF repair drain plug. The end game is to have a clean shot with a socket, hence the stock inner  Allen drive, but you could cut a slot in the replacement plug for a straight slot socket.
