My M8 experience is pretty limited other than tuning on the dyno. What can the stock clutch tolerate? The TC's are usually slipping pretty good after a bolt in cam 🙈
Speed costs money. How fast do you want to spend?

Hillside Motorcycle

Seems the stock set up can withstand 120 ft/lbs, or at least from what we've seen, Aaron.
What we do use to hold on to much more is an AIM unit.
Sent a 124"/.475 cam combo home on Saturday, and that was making some very good power, and the AIM unit came along for the win.

The 107s have a 9 plate kit- slips with a good tune/cam. The "specials" (114/117) got the 10 plate kit from the factory. Adding heavy springs and a shim or two to the 10 plate clutches has been good enough for most of the 120/124 kits. The Aim unit works as advertised.
The Rekluse Torque drive kit with good springs is very effective.
Ignorance is bliss, and accuracy expensive. How much of either can you afford?

10 plate with Barnett red springs and 2 shims holds 150+ ft#. 9 plate with the same springs holding 140 square without issue.

Rekluse is what goes out here with high early torque  builds

So you're using a Barnett in your bike? Hows the clutch pull? It held when you were running the CR480 in your 124"? I just ordered an AIM setup, but I really didn't want a VPC, I just hadn't seen any reviews on a Barnett in an M8. If it's holding for you, I'd much rather go that way. Are you using an aftermarket slave cyl for clutch pull?

I am using a 10 plate HD kit in mine. Yes, it held fine with the 124 CR480 set up. No slave but the lever pull isn't that bad.

Thanks Durwood. One more question, you're using Barnett springs on the factory Harley clutch hat?

Any idea how the Barnett red springs compare to the SE springs, they have 1200 & 1275 N ratings, stock with the 10 disc is 1200 while stock 9 disc is 1100. TIA

Yes, complete factory clutch with red Barnett springs and 2 shims under each.

I have never tested the SE springs.

Not saying this is correct but just doing the math:
The red Barnett says its a 100 lb spring
The SE 1275 set is 1275 newton which converts to about 95 lb per spring

I heard rumor that starting somewhere in late 2019 all touring bikes came with the 10 plate. Is there any truth to this?

KiwiRob

Maybe all 2019 bikes have 10 plate clutch. The new 2019 Fat Boy I bought earlier this year has 10 plates. Installed 1275n springs along with a 124cid up-grade. Clutch pull seems no different than stock. - Rob

It is true from the ones I have seen.
