primary gear ratio

  I have a 2002 fxd.crank gear is a 25 clutch shell is 36 & the chain has 82 pins.the chain is too long.it don't seem to be stretched that bad.is this gear ratio
  stock or has it been changed.chain won't adjust enough.shoe is fine.  thanks  Al

Those are the stock sprockets and looks like it takes an 82.

Sounds like the chain is stretched. Check it by laying it on a flat surface, stretching it out & then trying to push it all back to "make it shorter". Another way is to see how much it will "bend", side to side, when laying flat.

If stretched so bad it won't tension in the adjustment range there likely will be wear between the sprocket teeth. When pulled tight on a new sprocket the rollers will not bottom between the teeth. Also measuring pin to pin and comparing to a new chain or spec is a good test. Multiplying the difference by 82 should give you the approximate stretch (which is actually mostly wear).
