Oil Pan Threads

2010 Ultra oil drain plug not tightening up. Run a 1/2 - 20 tap to clean up the threads and got threads strips back out. Cleaned up the threads on plug itself. None of the threads seemed stripped but drain plug won't tighten up snug. I get a few drips. Will one of the over sized 1/2 - 20 drain plugs from auto parts store suffice? Or tap 9/16 or remove oil pan that I'd rather not want to do?

Oversized plug will work. They sell plug and tap kits. A timesert would work also.
