do S&S quickie push rods need new tubes

do S&S quickie push rods need new tubes or will they work with the existing ones? I did see something about cutting the tubes down to gain access to them, but diameter wise, is there enough clearance?

I used them numerous times with stock tubes and no problems

okay.. are they a good option or are normal adjustables any better?

The "Quickee" is a good choice for most street applications, I have used a lot of them over the years. I only had one failure with a "Quickee" pushrod, ever,  about 15 years ago. It was a TC, big bore engine with .650" lift, bigger valves (2.100") and springs. The springs were about 600# open force as I recall. The tube section bent on one pushrod, the adjuster stayed straight. Replaced them with tapered Smith Brothers pushrods.

S&S are the best value.. £150 landed.. the others are over £250!... so think I'll go S$S for now    93-5120 appears to be the right item ;)

Can't see a thing on Garfield...

So I have Hylift Johnson lifters... what depth do you aim for with these? .100" ?

The manufacturer says .030 preloaded?
I've seen people quote .070
And Fastlane Headwotks in the UK who sells these in the UK and uses them on hid builds, says .140

So totally not sure. Got to say the manufacturers advice is the one I'd usually follow but does appear a bit lite.

I've always used S&S or SE. I have nothing against Smith's, but... two threaded parts with two opportunities to unscrew? What exactly is the benefit in that?

On the pre-load, I'll measure the travel in the units and set mid way.. do you think that will be the best idea?

Measure total travel of the lifters you are actually using, then decide. Some lifters have short travel, so their 1/2 way point would be less than standard lifters. Most have .200" +/- 10%

I was hoping we would hear from Larry.  He is a site supporting vendor that has been supplying members with your lifters.  He has extensive experience with them and his advice is good.  I would follow his lead on this.  :wink:

Update.. checked at .207 " so .140 suould be fine although quite a bit of spring pressure at that?

The manufacturer states .030 because that's what they're set at in an automotive application.
For a motorcycle the lifters are the happiest when set to the middle.
1/2 of .200 + .040 [to allow for growth] = .140

 :agree:   Plus the deeper adjustment may be helpful with hot starts at fuel stops etc..

.140 it is... thanks for the explanation.

Just making a fly cutter to do my heads so when the rods come , its ready to go back together. they are in Kentucky right now :)
