Any ideas? these are new and just fitting with the S&S quickies, but one of them won't bleed down.
Left it overnight and its still very tight (just about turn it by hand)
Had it back out, stripped and cleaner, fresh oil, and still does it?

And now, one I did yesterday has gone tight.. guess they are pumping up.. how stiff should they be. The S&S instructions say they should turn freely, but how can that be if you pre-fill them?

Also, just seen one has a mark on the roller    Onto a new cam?

Not good!!

I had a problem with a set of HyLift 2313 S. Opposite of yours.. Had one bleeding down to fast.. Hammer on frying pan !!  2500 mi on the set.. I pulled them took them apart on a white rag, found nothing in them but clean oil.. Bought a set of S&S from Fuel Moto and haven't had a noise out of them since.  Even if the bikes sits for 2 weeks.. Changed them last November.

It could be I've got 1 good one and the rest are bleeding down too quick  :teeth: ...

Might look at S&S but seen mixed reports on them saying the qualitys not what iw as etc... But would fit with the S&S rods and rockers :)

IIRC, S&S lifters currently are Hi-Lift Johnson. Check with Larry's Motorcycle and Machine.

£190... but not a lot in the UK right now and if I'm ever getting this thing on the road I need something.

Any experience with SE units?.. some posts saying they are poor but is for Twin Cams lifters, can't find much on Evo.

Also saying made in the US when actually they are made in Mexico / China ??

kd

Experience with one set for evo only.  They were oversize +.002 to +.0035 and not all the same dimension.  I can't believe that would be the norm though.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've always thought Screamin Eagle was the same as HD just the 'tuning' side of the business?
Maybe not, are they associated with HD.. if so you'd expect the same products??

If not, who are they, as I did read one post saying their lifters were made by Jim's, who also have lifter issues.... Bloody minefield!

Who makes lifters we can trust?

My local independent shop still uses and recommends S&S for almost all his engine and transmission needs.

I've got about 40K miles on my 113" evo with the S&S lifters.
Haven't looked inside yet but motor is still quiet and running great so I'm in no hurry to dig into it.

I can tell you they didn't look the same as the Hy Lifts and they don't bleed down.. Maybe they are made by Johnson but to a different quality spec.. ?

Managed to get some delivered for £248 ($251 for the lifter, $20 delivery, rest in import tax... about $68)... and I've just sold the Hylift ones for £140... so for £100 I get the S&S.. just got to wait for the things to arrive now

The S&S don't look like the Johnson ones I agree, for a start the have a hole in the end of the axle, but they don't look to be finished the same way. Anyway, that will give me a total S&S valve train so fingers crossed they are good when the arrive :)

If I sell my FXR 'L' grind cam, I may come out of it at zero cost ;)

S&S lifters are not made by Johnson. They also have a large quality defect with recent batches that affects the check valve. Two crate v111's I have both had fully collapsing lifters. Issue solved with Comp Cams race lifters.

Is the quality problem with the Johnson or the S&S?

S&S lifters; sorry for not being clear. Johnson, Feuling, Larry, Comp Cams are brands I trust, but all hard to find right now.

Do not trust the "Highlift Johnsons evo lifters sold on e bay.I got burned by a set.

Well, my S&S units got lost coming from the States :(  so they are refunding me) .. this is why I don't like ordering from overseas... 5 weeks lost!

And I've just called the place in the UK to see if he's got any Hylift units back in stock yet....  and he's had them all along   when I called before, he thought I was talking Twin Cam

But at least they stand a good chance of being here for the weekend :)      Larry's ones like the last set I had
