M8 cooler and filter flow

Got told the oil flows via cooler then the filter ifso on cold starts and cold weather the 5 micron oil filter may be in bypass as oil is thicker.

If your talking about the factory oil cooled bikes. No the oil doesn't go from the oil cooler to the oil filter. It goes from the oil cooler to the cylinder heads.

My experience when a filter is bypassed even for a short period the oil turns very dark, quickly.

From pump to filter then throughout engine.  Couple of thing to keep in mind.  We have multi viscosity oil and the pressure of bypass is pressure deferential seen by bypass spring and not indicated oil pressure.

Oil coming out of the pump takes 2 paths (oil cooled engine):

To the oil cooler:
Oil goes through the oil cooler, then on to the cooling manifold and then the cooling passageways in the cylinder heads, then back to the oil pan.

To the oil filter:
Oil goes through the filter, then comes back into the cam support plate where it is routed to the lifters, crank, piston oil jets etc.

How do you tell that it's the bypass that is causing the black oil?

How do you know what caused the oil to turn black, and how did you determine how long the filters were in bypass mode?

I`m not buyin it.

Dan, it was a Evo on a friends bike, and once the oil lines were routed correctly, the oil stayed clean. Thought the M8 would be the same, not selling anything.
