2000 FXDWG Front Wheel to 1986 FXG

I think I know the answer, but want to ask for anyone who has done this. Can we take a front spoke wheel from a 2000 FXDWG (uses 3/4" ID sealed bearings) and put this on a 1986 FXWG front end that uses 3/4" ID Timken bearings? Both are 3/4" ID bearings, the only thing I think that needs changed is use the axle spacers from the 2000 FXDWG bike. Is that correct? I know the rotor doesn't have the notch for the speedometer cable, but we can fix that. I don't know the lengths of the 2000 FXDWG spacers, or the inside measurement between it's forks. So I'm assuming I just need the 2000 FXDWG axle spacers.

Is this correct?

Found the lengths. now to have my buddy measure his in between fork distance and see.

40910-00 is .887" long

43683-00  .986" long

Isn't there a larger flange for the disc? You'd have to use the later brake disc, but that shouldn't be an issue.

I haven't seen the 2000 wheel yet, but he did notice the lack of the notch for the speedometer. He'll transfer the whole wheel assembly, I'm having him order the spacers, should all slide together.

   The spacers are not the problem. It's the speedo drive that has to get redone to make it work. After that them you can get or make the right spacers.

Yeah, I knew that when I first posted.....

  Putting a notch in the rotor might not work as the tab on the drive may not reach it. You might get away if you can extend the tab on the drive. Or put a notch in the bearing housing which I would not do.

   The other thing you might run into is once you line the rotor up with the caliper you might have shift the rim with the spokes to line it up with the fender.
