deuce 2000 carb model ,engine light ,codes

Hi all 2000 softail deuce carb model , hasnt been going for a while around 14 months , fired it up , with jumper battery ,let it run with jumper battery still attached,,took it for a ride with a new battery in it , , the trip metre flickers and speedo stuck on 40klm , engine light on , below 1500 revs engine light is off and trip meter,speedo reading, is stable ,and spedo needle goes back to zero ,the jumper battery was a car one ,  how do i retrieve codes on this model, or can some one guide me in the right direction , a new battery was fitted , it has a original  HD igintion module ,cheers barny
