I'm sure this has been discussed before.  I did a search but couldn't find anything specific. Iam trying to find out what cam end play should be on a 1966 Shovelhead.  I know the manual says .001 to .005.  The instructions for my Andrews cams says .010 to .015.  I found on Nightrider's web site says "If your using a point type ignition system you must maintain cam end play between .003 to .008."  Another article talks about Andrews cams grow more once hot so you should follow their instructions.  Whoever put this motor together last had it too tight-the spacer was welded to the cam.  So you can see my confusion.  Figured somebody here knew more than me about these genny shovel motors' limitations.

Part of the trick is to torque the cover down with the gasket you are using before you check it.  Same goes if you change the gasket if repairing a leak.
