Rocker arm suggestions?

My top-end is loud and getting louder. I popped the front rocker box cover off yesterday for a look-see, and there's considerable wear to the rockers and the shafts. I can't complain, though. Everything inside the rocker boxes is stock original with right at 100k miles. My plan is to replace them all, as well as replace the supports with the SE forged supports that I already have here. Here come the questions.

What's the scoop on TP roller rockers? For what new stock stuff would cost, it's not that much more expensive to buy the TP's. I've read on here where some guys have had good luck with Ultima's, but I don't know that the added lift from their 1.675 ratio would be a good thing (already got .590 lift cams with stock beehive springs). Of course, I don't know that the added lift would be a bad thing either. I'm certainly willing to listen to the experiences of others.

Would rollers be better than stock as far as longevity goes? I'm keeping this bike until I drop dead, so longevity is always a concern for me.

How about noise? I've heard some people say that sometimes rollers are noisier than stock. Honestly, I can live with a little clatter, and even if they're "noisy" by some standards, they'd almost have to be quieter than what I've got going on now. It's getting ugly in there. I'll definitely center everything on install, so maybe that will help rollers be as quiet as stock?

If rollers aren't a good plan, does anyone have a source for new-take-off stock parts? Money's tight, and we have a trip coming up in a week and a half. If there are no real gains to doing rollers, and I could find stock take-offs reasonably priced, I'd have no qualms about doing that.

Thanks in advance for any and all input.

I'm running the TP rollers in my 103 with Tman 625 now last season with HQ 33g's, mine are quiet. Happy with em got about 12K total on them. Have not had the covers off but the price is right.

Big Dan,
Good question and I am interested in hearing what the mechanics have to say.... But I was under the impression that 1.675 was the stock ratio for a twin cam or an evo...? I guess that I am wrong again.

Greg,
That's a definite "maybe." I'm waiting for the wife to get back to me. If I can swing the coin for the TP's, I'd like to do that. If not, then your stock stuff would be a blessing. Thanks much. And by the way, do you know for sure the ratio on the TP's? I've seen 'em adverttised as stock ratio, and I've seen 'em as 1.6 (which may just be a lazy man's way of typing 1.625).

Rugby,
Stock is actually 1.625 ratio. I wouldn't really be worried about it, except for I fear that at .590 lift I might already be at the upper limits of what the stock beehive springs will handle.

I'm fairly certain my TP rollers are stock ratio...I gonna call Brian & find out if mine are still there for you , even if you don't use em.

Look at pushrod ends, valve ends.. I you have many miles on the lifters it's probably a good time to replace.. Inspect the cams through the lifter holes. While the forged rocker towers are good, I'd inspect the old ones for shaft fit, if good reuse them. You cam also find take offs on ebay cheap..  I would not use roller from the point that I'm not sure the roller pin will last 100K.. If it goes, damage would be catastrophic. Max

Big Dan

Max,
Lifters only have about 10k on them. I already have the forged rocker supports on the shelf, so that's a bonus.

Greg,
If ya don't mind, maybe do give Brian a call. I may be heading down that way tomorrow anyways. There's a PGR ride out of Joliet, and the soldier was a friend of Smitty's. I'm not big on group rides, but Smitty's a good friend.

You're gonna need to do a whole lot better than that if you wanna stir my pot. I'm not nearly as excitable as some of these guys.

I absolutely thought about going back with stock parts. Like I said in the original post, I sure can't complain about the service I got from 'em.
