I posted this awhile back and didn't get much response.  Apparently, according to a friendly dealer, Baker has sold very few of these.  I am interested in it for the lower first gear, since the 07 Ultra I recently got is really sluggish from a standstill.  But the main reason is that the 5th gear in the OEM tranny is incredibly noisy.

I'm interested in anyone's first-hand opinion of how noisy the DD7 is, and how well it shifts.  Anything else you can tell me about your experience with it, I would appreciate it

Going with a 7 speed or 6 speed or even a 5 speed is more than enough gear changes for a Harley. The torque band is so broad a 4 speed would work very well on the street.

If you want lower first you can get a S&S 6 speed with lower first. Or Twist gear would be a good choice for low down torque. You can also change your pully sizes if you want lower gears and then use a OD tranny to get you back to where you started.

Personally I use the S&S 6 speed with the standard tranny belt sprocket. The OD one just wasnt my style. Mountain riding verses open highway..

Rev fast--You are right.  4-speed with wide ratio would be OK.  Don't want to change final drive ratio--I like 6th like it is.  Baker F6F is possibility, but more trouble to change than DD7

Hardyheads--how is it for noise in any gear?  With a 124, you hardly need the lower 1st gear.  Why did you choose it?  What are your impressions riding it around?

I have the DD7 in my 06 Dyna FXDI3500 with 131 ci engine.  When I did the engine build I went with a new clutch and the 2 tooth larger front sprocket from Andrews so my bike was extremely long legged in 1st gear although it had the cubes and the torque to pull it.  I put in the DD7 as one of my winter projects and couldn't be happier.  It put my low gear back a little lower than it was with the stock trans and now it screams right from a standstill and all the other gears are optimized in ratio so that it makes a very smooth trans.  It shifts beautifully and on a bone stock bike would probably give you about the same seat of the pants feel as spending $3000.00 at the stealership  on engine mods.  IMO a very nice addition to the newer bikes and the heavier the bike the more the benefit.  REED

Gear noise as compared to the 6 speed is absolutely quiet especially in 5-6-7 I would do this mod again in a minute without question the parts are excellent, it is a totally professional piece and carries a warranty much better than Harley does and it is about 30% stronger, another mod I would do is to put the new screaming eagle compensator in as well, it is also much smoother and quieter than the stock unit and more reliable as well but if you do that mod you need to use an 07 or newer stator.  Shortly after putting in the DD7 but not related to that my rotor bolts that hold the rotor onto the stock compensator came loose and destroyed the stator (common problem that really should be covered by Harley but the moment they have an excuse or you run out of warrant is denied).  In my opinion this stock setup is a poor design and should be replaced under policy.  If you do the screaming eagle compensator also update to the newer tensioner part #39929-06A if you don't already have it and your problems in the primary will be solved before they occur.  Any questions you can give me a ring 403-556-9530..  Tom
