Clutch Arm Question...

I have a Panhead that was a handshift.
For whatever reasons, I replaced the hand shift top with a ratchet top.
I left the long Panhead clutch release arm on, and I can pull the clutch lever in with one finger.
Is there any reason why I should or have to switch it and go to the short one?

Not enough travel to disengage the discs properly.
