I have a 1997 Wide Glide and oil is leaking from the derby cover. If the bike is upright (not on the kickstand) can I change the gasket without oil coming out? Just need to know what to expect when I open it up.
Thanks/ Scott

You should be able to do that. The oil level should be below the derby cover if filled correctly when upright.     Coff 06

The oil should actually be at or below the lower lip of the clutch basket when upright. Any more is overfill.  If it started out at below the basket lip then it is coming from the engine or transmission and there's a problem.

When you remove the derby cover, check it for flatness. They get high spots easily in the bolt hole areas.
