Does anyone know for sure if the Metzler Me880 or the Avon Storm ST AV56 Sport Touring Motorcycle Tires are radials or bias?

Also, can you Mix n Match Radials and Bias, and Mix n Match these brands?

I have odd size and these makers have one.  Any feedback on either is appreciated as well!

I know that the Metzler 880xxl's are radial.

I assume by your avatar that your a fellow Deuce rider.  Second, the Storm is the only Avon that fits the rear on a Deuce.

Right now I'm running a 16" Dumlop, 130, and the Storm on the rear.  It seems to handle OK.  Before the 16 I had a 21" Metzler, 90/90, ME880 front that seemed OK also.  All of these tires that I've just listed are bias ply.  Now I went +1 on the rear with my last Metz,  that was a steel belted tire.  I did not like that tire,  I think the bike wandered on the highway.  Even worse with my trailer.

One tip:  NEVER--NEVER  blow a steel belted tire in a burn out pit.   Can you say "What a f**kin' mess!!!"  Steel cords everywhere, including IN the drive belt.  When they changed the tire the shop had to remove the rotor and drive pulley to remove the "birds nest" of cords.

Best of luck, Eric

Eric,
Did you have the Storm on the back when you had the 90/90 Metzler on the front?  That's what I am considering.  Have the Metzler on the front, but am looking at the Storm for the rear.

What do you think of the Storm's handling and longevity?

TIA,
Val

What size is your rear wheel?  My Deuce came with a 17" rear and a 21" front.  I use to run the Metz 90x21 880XXL up front and the Sportech M3 190x17 on the rear.  That combination, both radial, worked well for me.  I just went to a 18" rear which lets me run a 200mm Metz 880XXL on it now.  I use to get about 8k on the rear Sportech and about 12K on the front.

Have chrome version of stock rear wheel and stock front with twisted spokes.  So Rear is 160/70 17 and I'm running the 90/90 21 Metzler up front.

Thumper, did you have a wider swing arm to run the 190 on the rear?

The SE version of the Deuce came with a wider swing arm and a Dunlop 180 mm tire stock.  Some of the Deuce owners would put a 18" rear wheel on it which I think would let them run a 180.  Metzler makes the Sportech  M3 in a 160 and a 170 x 17 rear, so you do have some other choices.

Yes I ran the Storm with the 21 Metz.  I didn't have any handling issues.

Can anyone give me difinate answers as to weather these are radials or bias?  Also, is the rule bias in the rear - need to run bias on the front?

The Metz 880XXL is a radial tire.
