Acquired a 97 ultra trike that is a bank repo. It has been monkeyed with heavily as far as the electrics. The fuel console is all apart and the wiring to the pump and sending unit has been butchered. Im confident I got it squared away as they had it wired wrong. Pump test good when hooked to direct 12v. Problem is it has no spark and fuel pump won't run when using the switch and cranking over the engine. The closest I have to a shop manual is for the 99 models and the wiring diagrams are not quite the same. It also had a PC III but I dropped it out of the system for testing. Wondering if ignition system operation is directly related to fuel pump operation. Anyone have a place to look at a 97 wiring diagram? Any tips for troubleshooting is always appreciated. I would buy the manual if I was to keep the darned thing, but I'm just trying to help a guy out.
Thanks. Rick.

Just found a diagram online. Thanks! I'll look it over and keep tracing stuff. Since this thing has been triked , it seems that some of the relays and stuff have been moved around with harnesses moved too. Kind of a struggle to figure things out. I guess the test procedure  is the same for the crank sensor as is the 99 models?

You already found A wiring diagram online, but in case it is not the factory one, here is the factory 1997 one (including Electrical Troubleshooting):

Wow ! That's way better than what I found. Many thanks for your help. After a quick cup of joe, I'll head out to the shop and do some more digging. I'll post what I find.

I have a 97 hd touring service manual I would send you to use as long as I get it back

When you first turn on the ignition the fuel pump should run for ~5 seconds to pressurize the system. (Priming Pulse)

If the ECU is not turning on this won't happen. In other words the problem may not be in the fuel pump circuit.
They don't call me Ironhead Rick just because I'm "hard headed"

Found it ! Open circuit wire from fuel pump fuse to fuel systems relay. Who ever installed the trike kit moved wire harnesses around and that particular one was run through a fender mount :wtf: causing a rub through with alot of green corrosion all in the loom. Once repaired fuel pump ran and had fire to the plugs. Lit right up. Now to put the spagetti back where it belongs. Many thanks to Frisco, the link was great. Rsw, that is quite an offer and I appreciate it. Burnout, I had already got the info read before I seen your reply but I do thank you.

Back in the bad old days when I still did electrical diagnosis on Harleys I had one simple cheat that really helped me. I would make some copies of the wiring diagrams pertaining to the problem I was working on and use colored pencils to trace each wire on the digram as I eliminated that wire on the bike as being the problem.

I carry full schematics on both my Shovel and the TC.
