Has anyone here got a suggestion for a portable jack/prop for an evo sportster to make chain oiling and cleaning less of a PITA when touring?
89 sportster came with chsin not belt!
If you can't fix it with a hammer and a roll of Duck tape then you're in trouble

In the olden days Harley did a belt conversion kit.
It shouldn't be too hard to find the parts to convert to belt and say goodbye to primitive chains.
That Oz red dust gets everywhere! I remember that from 6 months on the road up the dirt tracks 25 years ago. That was on an MZ with a properly designed east German enclosed chain case!
Just use the chain spray cans and accept the wear from dust if you can't face the cost of the belt parts.

If you see someone crying,
ask if it's because of their haircut

If the frame has two parallel tubes and are below the motor case, something like this may work for you. Easy enough to make.

Home Made MC Jack

Just to make sure that I am understanding Your question...
Is this something that You want to take along with You while travelling/touring?

Yes...I saw the Portable, as well as Touring.
I'm just not so sure I'd want to be packing something like that along with Me if I was travelling.
I think for Me anyways, that I would just bring along a scrap piece of 2x4 small enough to fit in a Saddlebag to put under the Kickstand to straighten the Bike up a little.
As well as the Lube, a Brush, a Rag, and some Hand Cleaner.
Move the Bike about a Foot at a time and have at the Cleaning and Lubing if necessary.
But, that's Me...and it's His Bike.

That's what I've been doing for almost 25 years
I had in mind a small prop for under the exhaust clamp, to just lift the rear wheel off the ground a smidgen

Yes I have seen that. Ratios are an issue with that kit if I remember correctly
I have a 97 motor in it now, making the swap easier. Mind u, ratio swaps are still easier with chain. And for everyday riding I think it looks a whole lot cooler agsinst all my mates new bikes 😂

I completely missed the portable while touring parameter.

Just as an alternative to a Jack/Prop...have You by any chance looked into a Center Stand that will mount to Your Bike?
I know that they were available for Sportsters.  Exactly what years...I'm not sure right now.
A Search on the Internet might show something.

Centre stands seem to be for earlier iron head only

Being here in the USA, I am not 100% familiar with what is available to You on Ebay, or if Ebay is actually accessible in Australia.

If available to You, and if You search...Harley Sportster Center Stand...there is a Seller called
topoftheworld699 that has them available for a variety of Various Years and Models of HD's.
The 1989 883, and 1200 CC Sportsters listed in their product Fitment Guide.
You have to scroll thru the Fitment Guide to find the Specific Model that You are looking for.
They are selling for $94.00 US Dollars, with Free Shipping.
They are manufactured in China...as well as a lot of other HD aftermarket parts these days.
They are also shipped from China...so I don't know what Your Personal Feelings are about that.

I can't speak as far as the Quality of it or know anybody that has this specific Stand.
Maybe You might get lucky with an Independent HD Shop in Your area that can find another Supplier for You.

I hope that this may help You a little.
Good Luck!

Andy this might work, only down side is it's leaning over on the chain side, dunno if the sidestand is too far forward either but maybe it'll work? Strap the front brake on an lift under the swing arm.
